Our Experience

Welfare Aware worked with a national animal welfare charity to conduct an organisation restructure and design a new strategy focusing on evidence-based animal welfare. This included supporting the charity with recruitment and mentoring of new staff, designing training programmes and welfare assessment tools underpinned by science to upskill staff and monitor and evaluate programmatic interventions, and conducting ethical data collection to evidence the impact of interventions, leading to funding acquisition and peer-reviewed publications.

Welfare Aware worked with a global charity and an academic institution to critically evaluate scientific literature relating to specific contexts of animal welfare and produce a report for external stakeholders to align with strategic priorities. An assessment tool based on the Five Domains model of animal welfare was then developed to be adapted to different scenarios to monitor and promote positive welfare for animals, including in resource-restricted environments. Research opportunities were also identified, with Welfare Aware supporting on communication between key stakeholders.
